The Scholarly Society of America Journal of Medicine (SSAJM) was created by Resident Physicians to give physician-scientists the opportunity to develop the critical thinking skills needed to succeed in academia and clinical practice. Our journal is authored, reviewed, and edited by Physicians, Fellows and Physician residents working with faculty mentors and attendings. We believe that enhancing exposure to academic research through the development of analytic appraisal skills in the peer review process will enrich the conventional medical curriculum. Furthermore, we are dedicated to promoting interest in future career research through recognizing the scientific accomplishments of medical students across the country.

We encourage you as a practitioner in the field to enrich and showcase your medical and research expertise  through pursuit of publication at SSAJM. By submitting your research to SSAJM, your work  will compete against those of your peers, including practicing  PhDs/MDs. The editorial board of SSAJM and our thorough peer review process provides for a constructive submission process aimed at giving you a seamless publication process.

The SSAJM publishes scholarly articles on a variety of important and timely topics that are relevant to our international readership. The SSAJM also accepts articles on topics outside of our themed issues throughout the year. SSAJM has electronic backup and preservation of access to the content of its journals via PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN).

Interested authors can submit their articles through our Online Submission System. For questions please contact the Editors-in-Chief at chief@ssajm-online.org.

Dear Esteemed Readers,

Welcome to the June issue of the Scholarly Society of America Journal of Medicine (SSAJM). This edition presents a comprehensive exploration of diverse and critical topics in modern medicine.

Our commentaries section features an insightful piece on the intersections of medicine and spirituality, particularly within the intensive care unit, offering a nuanced perspective on patient care.

In our case reports, we delve into several rare and severe medical conditions. These include:

  • Massive gastrointestinal bleeding in gastric hyperplastic polyps
  • Treatment-resistant depression in the elderly population
  • Liver granulomatous disease secondary to argyria
  • Isolated primary endometrial carcinoma of the abdominal wall
  • Emphysematous cystitis in an elderly male diabetic patient with benign prostatic hyperplasia treated with an SGLT2-inhibitor
  • Daptomycin-induced acute eosinophilic pneumonitis
  • Pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis

Our review article systematically examines the correlation between air quality levels and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) rates in both developed and developing countries, providing a critical analysis of environmental impacts on autoimmune diseases.

Additionally, we present a special case of multisystem degeneration of the autonomic nervous system, highlighting the complexities and challenges of diagnosing and managing this rare condition.

We hope this issue enriches your knowledge and sparks further inquiry into these vital medical topics. Thank you for your continued engagement with our journal.

Warm regards,

The Editorial Team
